Hi, most of our basement is painted with horrible plastic paint that is peeling in some places. I just went to town on what used to be the boiler room and pulled off the paint that was coming loose... My partner then came and said that the green underneath could be asbestos. I was more thinking it's a thin layer of green paint. The chimney is brick. The wall you see is plastered.
What do you think? Is it some kind of dark green asbestos paint? Am I going to die now?

  • Peeling paint on basement wall with exposed patches revealing dark green layer, near a white unit, raising concerns about possible asbestos.
  • Peeling paint revealing reddish-brown and greenish layers, possibly asbestos, on a plastered wall in a basement or former utility room.

The only safe thing is to send it for analysis.
But for what purpose would it be painted with asbestos? A plastered wall is not flammable.

You can rest assured it is not asbestos.
