Hello! I can start by saying that I'm relatively new to this. I set up a shelf (consisting of a board and 3 brackets) - where the board is loose, you need to drill yourself and attach the brackets to it.

Anyhow, I thought I’d put up the brackets first and then mark where to drill (through the bracket holes). In hindsight, maybe it would have been better to drill and attach the brackets first... However, I used a cross laser and thought it would all turn out great...

But anyway... it didn’t; the board doesn’t sit flat on all the brackets. It rests on the third outer and the first, but not the middle one.

Do I need to re-drill or can this possibly be solved by placing something underneath, and if so, what?

Thanks in advance!

  • Shelf with dark wood board and metal brackets, against a white wall. The board is unevenly supported by the brackets.
  • A wooden shelf on metal brackets is mounted on a wall. The shelf appears uneven, touching the outermost brackets but not the middle one.
  • Close-up of a shelf with a wooden board and three metal brackets, showing uneven placement causing the board not to sit flat on all brackets.
Looks like you just need to tighten the screw a bit more so the shelf comes down onto the bracket. What does the level say at the moment?

The level shows that it is flat. But I haven't drilled holes for the screws in the shelf yet, I thought I would do that afterward:thinking:

If it's flat, just put a brick in between and it's done. The brackets are probably not exactly the same.

Thanks for the help! Where can I get these washers?

Plates are available in any home improvement store.
Maybe it will be fine without spacers when you screw in and press the shelf down against the bracket.
