I have an old boathouse that I'm keen to fix up properly. The thing is, it sort of sits on timber which in turn is lying in the water. It is reasonably straight and all that, plus it has been there for over a hundred years. BUT, the floor inside the boathouse is loose because the ice pushes up the floorboards in the winter, so it makes sense not to have nailed them down. But it doesn't work very well if you want to fix up the inside.
When talking to people who have boathouses and other "knowledgeable" folks, many have raised their huts with a jack and added more timber. Due to the construction, it gets tricky with this boathouse.
Someone has piled in the water and added beams for really large sums (someone mentioned 300-400 thousand).
I've been thinking a bit and thought, why not a proper slab? Bring in a crane truck, lift away the entire boathouse. Form and pour concrete (when the water level is low). Lift the boathouse back and you have a boathouse that stands steady with a proper floor.
Okay, I know it's not "just" to do what I described in those four short sentences above, but if I estimate high and roughly, it can hardly cost more than 100-150 thousand, and then I have a really good foundation.
Now, the thing is, I've never done this before and I don't know if it's even possible or if I'm completely off track.
When I've mentioned this to people, they first raised their eyebrows but then nodded and said, "why not." ANYONE who knows something about this?
Best regards,
Jagger

Floating dock in concrete, chains to P rings or similar

Easier to understand my problem if I include a picture perhaps.
The water goes in when it becomes high tide, under the boathouse, and in winter it lifts up the loose floor.
If it had been concrete there, the water wouldn't come in, which it does if there's a concrete dock there. Or/and if you use piles.
Regards
J
