Hi!

Unfortunately, I encountered a problem with my previous doghouse, which started to mold all over the plywood. Ordinary, unpainted plywood it was, but I had applied an oil that was supposed to protect it.

Now, I'm designing the new doghouse. The frame is built from 45*70 pressure-treated wood, and the insulation will be 70mm foam. No surprises there! The bottom, however, is what I'm worried about.

Many seem to use plywood, but considering my last issue with mold, I'm a bit concerned about it. The doghouse will stand on a decking floor and then on a couple of 'legs' made of pressure-treated wood. So the plywood will not have direct contact with the ground at all.

Do I just need to paint it? Do I need another material?

Picture of my idea

We have used form plywood in a playhouse, and it has held up well. However, it was a little higher up from the ground. Otherwise, maybe you can place a Jackon or LUX board there, which is meant for use inside bathrooms, like plaster + styrofoam + plaster. That way, it's a bit insulated too. :-) I did it in a small hedgehog house, but that was just because I happened to have leftover pieces. It has held up, at least.

Thanks, Andreas!

Unfortunately, I neither received notifications nor was logged in, so I haven't seen your comment until now unfortunately!

I bought some better plywood than I had before, soaked it in oil, and then painted it with primer 3 times - I hope it holds up :)

I'll get back with an update!
