Please, all you skilled "carpenters". I want to build a dog kennel for my dog who is tired of being tied up in the garden :o I have never built anything this "big" and don't know what to consider when it comes to the construction phase. I understand everything about gravel, mesh, height, but how is it easiest to set up the "frame"? Do I need to cast? Can one simplify the process, for example, by placing the posts directly in the ground or anchoring them in another way without casting? How large should each section be? How do you fit a door? etc.
Thank you so much for all the help I can get.
Have a nice summer :)

How were you planning to use the dog kennel? That is, how long will the dog stay there? How big is the dog? Is it very prone to escaping?

The dog is a Baset griffon petit, a hunting dog, that prefers to be outdoors, with a shoulder height of about 38 cm. We take walks with him 3 times a day, so he should manage from morning until evening. He probably won't escape but will definitely dig, so I know I need to have netting underneath, with a height of about 2 meters he should stay inside. We are thinking of having one part with gravel and another with maybe some grass but considering that it won't get muddy in the fall or when it rains.

The paws/pads of a hunting dog do quite well with gravel in the dog kennel, so they are ready for hunting when the time comes. Opt for coarse gravel.

Many people "foundation" their dog kennels with sleepers or construction timbers. However, the dog's tendency to dig could cause issues as you may not get them deep enough into the ground. Then you just frame it up, possibly with pressure-treated wood, and attach a mesh. It doesn't have to be much more difficult than that.

There are some "animal husbandry rules" concerning the size of a dog kennel, which I am not familiar with. But better to be large than small. Also, provide a place for the dog to lie down, both indoors and outdoors, and a shaded area for summer time.

Big thanks to everyone for all the help. Now I'm getting started and we'll see how this turns out.
