Does anyone know if black carriage bolts exist... or at least where the heads are black? I would need it for a couple of iron handles. Can't find anything on Google when I search.
Does anyone know if stores like K-rauta and Silvan have that?
I live in Örebro if anyone knows a place nearby.
Thanks

If you're looking for an old-fashioned look, you can heat them until they glow, then dip them in linolja, I seem to remember it was, (when they are hot and good you can work the surface a little, for the forged look).
Hmm, they probably shouldn't glow, actually, but if you heat them to that point, the shiny surface should disappear, then when they've cooled a bit you oil them, I think, I don't remember the temperatures.

Probably, your bolts have a zinc coating on the outside.
You can remove this with some suitable acid, then heat treat according to previous advice.

You should use something called bluing solution or Gun Blue, one drop and the head of the bolt is black forever!! It is used to antique-treat new steel to a wrought iron "look," and it is also used to blue gun barrels.
