Hello,

We live in a single-story atrium house built in 1974 in a Stockholm suburb. The house is of the functionalist type (shoebox) with a flat sloping roof. We have torn down all the ceilings to replace them, so all the roof trusses are visible. We have an interior wall we would like to take down to create an open space, but we're a bit unsure if it might be load-bearing. All the novices we ask give completely different answers. Everything from it not being load-bearing, to it being "a little" load-bearing, or load-bearing. It feels quite flimsy, so I think there shouldn't be any problems removing it, but I want to be sure. I've talked to the municipality, and they can't give an answer without me submitting a building permit application, which will probably take time.

My question is, there must be professionals who can come here and take a look and provide a concrete answer? How do I find someone, what should I search for? Building technician? Structural engineer?

Grateful for tips, preferably concrete with names of consultants/companies.

Do you have any drawing of the house showing the direction of the rafters as well as the placement of the interior wall? If the interior wall is across the rafters, it could be load-bearing but doesn't have to be. It depends on the span of the rafters and their dimensions. The better you can describe your house, the more help you can get here on the forum.
