Hi! I am planning to build a bridge construction based on two long beams (over 15 meters). At one end, I will anchor the beams in rock, and at the other end, the beams will be anchored in a stone out in the water (thinking of drilling down threaded rods or some form of beam shoe, etc., that I'll secure with grout). This way, the entire structure can stay over the winter since everything will be above the surface. Additionally, I plan to let the beams extend a bit beyond the last point (the stone) to help offset some of the weight that might cause the beams to sag between the rock and the stone (which I find hard to believe they will do). I am considering using I-beams, H-beams, or square beams, preferably I-beams. Does anyone know where I can find beams, and which type of beam would be best to use?
 
ipe beam for the sake of load
hea beam is cheaper but does not handle the same weights as ipe
kkr or square tube are the most expensive. What weights will you load it with?
an ipe 160 is not self-supporting at 15 meters for example
 
is ipe=ibalk and hea=h-balk? and what is kkr? the load will just be longitudinal joists (two-by-threes) plus some form of decking to walk on all the way out. You mean that an ipe 160, for example, will sag under its own weight if it spans freely between two points about 15 meters apart? I don't want the construction to flex. It must be perfectly straight. :)

I don't have the formula collection available right now, but 15 meters is VERY long without support.
 
You'll probably need to dimension your bridge like a better skyscraper if you want to have 15 cantilevered meters, I'm inclined to agree with that...
 
KKR = Hålprofil... Square...

An IPE 220 should perhaps manage 15m?
 
It is better to use trusses for those distances. Then you can convert to 44m without support columns. However, some calculations are needed first :)
