Hi, How do you calculate the dimension of a wooden beam with a certain span, evenly distributed load?
Does anyone know the formula?
Does anyone know the formula?
I can't figure it out.
Calculated roof 0.55 kN/m2 + snow load 2 kN/m2
Roof area 8.5x5.8 with cc 1200 i.e. 8.5x.12 m2 weight on the beam.
It becomes 2.55 x 6.9 = 17.8 kN per m.
The table on the page provides 2 kN and up for different dimensions.
I must have calculated something wrong somewhere....

If the beams are spaced at cc1200mm, the line load becomes 1.2*the load.
I wrote the wrong formula, 12 instead of 1.2 but have calculated with 1.2. Could it be correct with 17 kN?

That sounds a bit high for a beam spaced at cc1200. Where does 6.9 come from?
did you get my pm @bossespecial ?

How did it go, did you calculate any beam?
