I am looking for a cheap and simple construction to support above a garage door in a masonry basement.

The basement is not yet built, so all possibilities are open.

The wall where the garage door will be is about 5m long, and the door will be of standard dimensions, 25x21.

One option I considered was placing a sufficiently strong standing beam (edge beam) on the sill that takes up the load from both the roof trusses and the floor joists. However, there remains a problem, namely that the leca blocks that are to be built above the garage door do not have a suitable support. Can this be solved?

Otherwise, it is probably a beam above the door itself that is needed. Can you use a regular glued laminated beam even in a masonry construction or are cast beams required?

Appreciate any opinions! :)

Come on now! :)

Yes. And you could probably make a concrete beam yourself too when you already have the concrete truck there...

But I feel a bit uncertain about what loads there might be. Partly it’s the rafters that will land on this wall and partly there are 2 floor joists that use the wall as support. Everything has to go down into the concrete slab on which the basement is built.

I don't think you can just buy any leca-balk and expect it to hold for this!
