Hello!
I am planning to build a garage (7800*6800) with leca and free-span wooden trusses.
The door opening will be in one gable end, and the only load to be supported above the door is 1.5 layers of lecasten.
So my question is whether I need to install some form of beam or if it is sufficient to place a thick L-iron and continue building on top of that?

Best regards, Christer

Why not a hollow profile in the same dim as the lecablocks?

Put up a substantial beam that you embed the stone into. This way, the beam disappears into the stone. It requires a bit of effort to carve out the beam profile in the Leca, but only a few centimeters are needed. Consider using HEA180 or HEA220. I personally have an HEA180 for a 3.6-meter opening. It was required according to the house engineer.

With a parallel beam at the other end of the garage, it becomes the perfect platform for a gantry crane. Great when you need to bench the engine for the latest tuning.

:D
