Hi,

In a laundry room renovation that we inherited from previous owners, we plan to install beadboard on the ceiling. The wood is already primed and pre-cut by the previous owners, so we thought we'd continue along the same path. The wood measures 22x120 with double bead. However, it has been stored for some years, and therefore some planks have warped slightly. The 125-year-old ceiling attached to old beams is crooked, so it has been furred down, see picture. The new cross battens are screwed into the ceiling beams but with varying cc measurements between 770 to 1100.

I have two questions. Firstly, I wonder if cc of 1100 works on 22 mm thick beadboard, or if we need to put laths on tighter cc first? Secondly, does anyone have any wise tips to facilitate installation when the planks have warped slightly? Is it practically impossible to install slightly warped planks so that you have to buy new ones, or can you get them a bit straighter somehow beforehand?

Thanks in advance!

Old wooden ceiling with visible beams and partially repaired sections; includes exposed insulation and electrical wires. Peeling paint and new, crosswise battens.

I can answer the question about panel boards that have warped. I'll leave the other question about the distance between studs for someone else to answer.

It is possible to install beadboard that has warped, but it's helpful if there are multiple people who can hold and press at the same time. (We're doing it right now and so far we've managed to put up all the panel boards even though some seemed hopeless initially.)
