Beadboard, chair rail, and baseboards
Hello! I am planning to put up beadboard in my cottage. To say I am a beginner is an understatement, so I apologize in advance for any potentially silly questions.
I have never installed paneling before and I am wondering how to finish it at the top and bottom. I have seen that the chair rail is sort of "notched" to cover the top edge of the paneling. Now I am wondering if the same applies to the baseboard? I keep searching online for inspiration and ready-made products, but I can't find anything of that type...
My second question is about the beadboard itself. Can I buy it pre-cut to the height I want, or do I buy full lengths and cut them myself? Isn't there a risk of a lot of waste if a full length is, say, 3 meters (which I have found) and I want the wainscoting to be 160 cm high? Or do you splice pieces together on the wall?

Normally you set the panel down to the floor and then the baseboard on top.
Regarding length. If you have a good saw within reach, you can surely order in the length/width/thickness you want. In building supply stores, it’s almost always pre-packaged in one and the same length.

Hmm, that's a great idea. We have the cottage in northern Hälsingland. Reasonably, it should be teeming with timber there, one might think...
Available in 4.5m, saw them into 1.5m lengths to avoid waste. If you want the skirting board at the same level as the panel, install it first and place the panel on it, use panel clips to attach the panel. Buy at XL-bygg and they can cut the lengths for you. Fredde
