How should I go about refreshing the basement? Weathered and porous plaster in many places. Also discolored painted plaster that will probably bleed through if painted over. The house has been drained and has Platon mat since a year ago. The basement is heated to about 18-19 degrees year-round. Knocking down and replastering = that's so damn hard. Sheet material to put over, uncertain or? What to do???
Have done this in a previous house... as you write, it's a lot of work...
1: Knock down all the plaster that's loose.
2: Re-plaster the wall.
3: Paint with silicate paint or similar. Do not cover with boards that trap any moisture.
4: Enjoy the result of all the hard work!

If you follow sponken's advice, you will enjoy for a long time without worrying about what happens behind the boards. Keep in mind that you haven't drained under the wall soles, and moisture from the ground can creep in and is often visible at the junction between the floor and the wall if evaporation is blocked. It's not large amounts and isn't noticeable if the wall can breathe, but if you put up boards without ventilation, the process continues without being seen at first. It is often discovered when a buyer inspects your house... which can lead to significant price reductionssponken said:
