Hello
I bought a yellow brick villa built in 1956 two years ago. At that time, there was a musty smell in the basement, and I was advised to redo the drainage. I also cleared the basement of organic material, so now it smells fresh and seems dry. The house was asphalted on the exterior, and I also have a room where the outer walls are asphalted. During the redraining, holes were knocked in the asphalt so that moisture could escape. Now I have a construction company cladding the walls with steel studs and installing drywall. I want holes to be knocked on the inside of the asphalted walls as well, but I am facing passive resistance here. "The holes drilled when installing the studs are enough," claim my builders.
Does anyone know what is right and wrong here? The room in question will be used as a guest room.
