I'm going to make a couple of doors for a wardrobe. I really don't want the doors to warp, and I'm wondering which material I should use.

I want them to look like this door, i.e. a bit "old-fashioned"
Sliding barn door leading to a cozy bedroom, featuring modern rustic design with wooden panels and black metal hardware.

I've read on the forum and concluded that raw planks probably warp.

Two options remain:

Panel board made of MDF with a frame of paneling. I'm unsure how nice this will look.

Or laminated pine, which I saw someone had used.

What are the advantages/disadvantages, and which material will give the best end result?

Thanks for the help :)

Finger jointed pine is probably best for the purpose.

Thank you! Can you explain why the doors won't warp compared to råspont? Is it because they're glued in a certain way? :)

You can create stripes with a circular/saw or mill them if you want them beveled.

So I saw all the way through? And then the frame holds them together? Or should I just make a cut, but not go all the way through?

Isn't råspont unplaned on one side? There is hyvelspont which is nice on both sides. But anyway, with regular tongue and groove boards you probably don't get any lines like in the picture? Or is it if you don't tap together the tongue and groove then? In the picture, it looks like the edges are beveled, and thus the lines are formed. Or it's like on our old doors hanging here at home.

All types of wood will warp, more or less. You can definitely use raw board or other pine, but let it dry first. It should dry under pressure so it cannot warp. Alternatively, you can assemble the door and place it under pressure. Regular panel wood works as well.

Saw/mill a shallow groove to get the right feel.

If only one side is visible, you can cover an MDF with whatever you want it to look like. Otherwise, outbuilding doors tend to warp as they are often outside.... The moisture content thus goes up and down, causing the wood to warp.

Thanks :) today I will buy a large board of laminated pine. Let's see how it turns out :)

okay, thanks leby. it feels like my melody is still mdf. I can do everything I can with the other materials and it is cheaper.

MDF is very dimensionally stable, like a 16 mm MDF with the board on top or whatever you think looks nice...
