Recently bought a new apartment (Penthouse that is an extension on an old building from 1920, the new part was built in 2010) and moved in two days ago.
I have noticed that sometimes there are loud noises in the walls, maybe 3-4 times a day. It's usually not very loud but enough that you can hear it when sitting in another room. Yesterday, when it was quite windy (15-17 m/s), there was a really loud bang, like someone hitting the wall with a baseball bat
Does anyone know what could be causing this? The apartment has very large windows, could it have something to do with these?
I have marked out where the large windows are located on the floor plan.
I have attached a picture of the outside of the apartment. You mentioned that it might be the roofing sheet moving. Is this something I should be concerned about and possibly bring up with the association?
That picture helped. I guess it could be roofing sheets moving due to heat... in that case, I wouldn't be worried. However, if something is loose and moving in the wind (it could also be a sheet), then that's a different matter. This might need to be addressed.
Check with previous owners and neighbors who have the same type of apartment as you to see if they've noticed anything. Also, try to note if these bangs occur more or less on certain days, e.g., if it bangs a lot even when it's 10 degrees and cloudy... etc.

I doubt that it's something loose, instead it sounds more like a loud bang inside the wall or similar. If something were loose, it would sound more often in connection with wind and so on.
It's difficult to localize where the sound is coming from. Either it's the roof or the wall by the windowpanes.
How common is it for roofing sheets etc. to move during the summer? considering how it sometimes sounds (a loud bang in the inner walls) the sheet metal must be moving quite a lot
