We are considering replacing the current balcony with wooden decking with a new construction (but the same dimensions). However, we would like a solution so that the space underneath is protected from rain. The current solution is a half-measure, where the items stored under the balcony are kind of semi-protected. The roof overhang can be seen in the drawing. Some tips on how this can be practically resolved would be appreciated.

Blueprint of a balcony design with measurements, showcasing potential changes for weather protection under the structure.

Some pictures of the balcony and house, I think, can spark the imagination 😉

Sure! As you can see, we store quite a bit of stuff under the balcony, even though it's not properly sheltered from the rain.

Under the balcony, various items such as bikes and pots are stored, exposed to weather elements, as mentioned in the post. Tidy storage space under balcony with various outdoor items, including plant pots, bicycles, and tools, partially sheltered but exposed to rain.

There is something called flexitak

If you want to weatherproof the items under the balcony AND maintain light entry, you might need to enclose all or part of the space with glass.

Depending on where the rain usually comes from, it might be enough to put up a wall/glass panel. Building a little extra overhang on the next balcony could also help, but I think it’s difficult to make it aesthetically pleasing.

I would rather build a separate shed and throw the stuff in there.

Thanks for the tip! Yes, that's a possibility, but won't material accumulate on the sheet and start growing algae and moss? How do you keep it clean?
