Attic staircase - gap between frame and collar beam
Hello!
I am planning to install an attic ladder. I have 54 cm between the joists and found a ladder, Dolle Clickfix, that has an outer frame dimension of 54 cm wide. It states that the hole should be 55 cm. My question is, do I have to/should I have 5 mm on each side for some reason, or can I install the ladder directly against the joists?

Hello! How did you solve it? I'm about to install the larger Clickfix 76 with hole dimensions 115x70 where the frame is 113x68 but realize that the spacers that are supposed to be between the frame and ceiling joist are not included. Where the heck can one find wooden spacers that are 10 mm? Thanks for the response!S Soy said:Hello!

Fit plywood or similar on the sides so it becomes stable. There's no point in using flimsy small spacers when you can make it really stable. Nice that you chose a wider staircase than the 55 cm I chose, but that's what was available 30 years ago... before the internet... I regret it every time I walk there, cramped...T Tobbe_G said:Hi! Where on earth can you find 10 mm wooden spacers? Thanks for the answer!
Good luck with the installation

Thanks for the tip! I guess I have to buy an entire plywood sheet then. I thought planed 8 mm might work but solid pieces of plywood might be better.Workingclasshero said:

Yes, 70 cm seems good. Hopefully, I can lift a moving box without twisting it past the hole.

It works fine with planed, it's just a spacer, not load-bearing. A few extra screws, you know, you'll be standing on it, well, when you're on the ladder, that isT Tobbe_G said:
