Attaching to gypsum and cross-laminated timber
I'm planning to install a shelving system for books on a wall that consists of a gypsum board and behind it a 20 mm laminated wood panel. As I understand it, the latter is a sheet of wood in several layers (the house is a prefab house from the 50s). But I'm unsure how much it can support. I've tried using some wood screws that seem to hold well, but the books are heavy and I want to be as sure as possible.
Perhaps a silly question, but is there any way to use the gypsum to get some support from it as well, like using plugs there that take a little before the screw anchors into the wood panel?
Or does anyone happen to know about laminated wood panels in prefab houses?

I have to say that it's hopeless to try to find the studs and even if I do, it gets tricky with the measurements for the shelf rails. And I'd prefer to avoid using molly because behind the plywood is insulation consisting of sawdust in narrow vertical masonite boxes, so I'm afraid there's too much clutter back there for it to work well.
