Hey, I attached the horizontal beam directly to the side of the roof eave and aligned with the roof rafters at the correct center-to-center distance. Check out this thread where I have two pictures. The horizontal beam had to be notched a bit.

The builder who did it thought it was the best solution.

Hmm okay, is it a beam along the house, so to speak, that's screwed into the rafters and then the deck's roof joists are attached to it, with a support underneath that they hang on, where there's a notch? Did I understand the pictures correctly then? :D
