Hello,

I am in the process of tearing down some basement walls to create a larger room. I have had a structural engineer visit to check the load-bearing capacity and have received dimensions.

Since it was only "partially load-bearing" for the floor joists of the bedroom above, a post at each end of the stairwell sufficed.

To the question, how do I best attach the pillars to the ceiling and floor? The floor is tiled.

The pillars are glue-laminated timber 90x90.

See the attached picture, the beam to be relieved can be seen along the stairwell, the wall on the right will be demolished.

Thanks in advance!

  • Stairs lead to a basement with exposed beams and two doors. A bucket and tools are on the tiled floor, and a wooden panel leans against the wall.
