I am about to install a ceiling with two layers of plasterboard. The outer layer should be screwed every 20 cm along the outer edge and every 30 cm along the joists. I haven't found any information if the same applies to the first layer, or if it can be screwed more sparsely?

As mentioned, you only need to screw the first layer so that it is held up until the second layer comes up. Then the ceiling should be framed with a 300mm center-to-center distance. And don't forget to stagger the joints, and use metal straps in the joints on the last layer.
