Attaching beam to post

I am going to build a sauna/relaxation area and need to attach a glued laminated beam (66x315) to a glued laminated post (90x90) above a sliding door section. What is the best way to do this? There will be a fairly small piece left, 24mm, if I cut a notch in the post. How should I orient the post with respect to the glued lamellas, option A or B?

Option A, I think there's less risk of the post cracking when you screw into it. But I would put a screw plate on each side just to be safe.
