I'm planning to mount a pull-up bar on the wall like the one in the picture. I will need a total of 6 screws, and the plan is to attach it to two studs. Do you think 8x40 mm French wood screws are sufficient or should they be longer? The studs should be at least 45x95 mm, I think, since they are load-bearing. I'm not really sure how large the screws can be without risking damage to the studs.
If you have drywall over the stud, then 40 mm might be a bit short; also, the bottom part of the bracket may work its way into the drywall. This can be counteracted by drilling out the holes in the drywall for the lower bolts and using regular flat washers equivalent to the thickness of the drywall. It's a good idea to pre-drill the stud with a 4 mm bit before installing the bolts to reduce the risk of cracks when you turn in the bolts.T teacup said:I am considering mounting a pull-up bar on the wall like the one in the picture. Hi, exactly, there's plasterboard on top so I used a stud finder to locate the studs. I was thinking of using washers for all the screws. How deep should the screws be to be on the safe side? I read somewhere that the depth should be 4 times the diameter of the screw, so if you’re using 8 mm screws, the length should be at least 32 mm. That's why I thought 40 mm would be suitable.P Peter787 said:If you have plasterboard on top of the frame, then 40 mm might be a bit short. I also have 8x70 mm so maybe they are better?
Normal drywall is 13 mm.T teacup said:Hi, exactly, there is a drywall on top, so I have used a stud finder to locate the studs. I plan to use washers for all the screws. If the stud is horizontal, you have 95 mm to screw into, or 45 mm if it is vertical?
You don't want screw tips on the other side of the wall, but it's you who risk falling and possibly getting hurt.
I would use 8*70.
8x4 = 32+13 for plasterboard + possibly 11 for OSB/plywood + thickness of the material you're screwing in. Your 40 is therefore too short.T teacup said:
Thanks, I'll probably go with 8x70 mm!P Peter787 said:
