I am renovating an old cottage and am now about to install wainscoting in the living room. From a previous renovation in the late 80s, the walls consist of particle board and I am therefore wondering how best to attach the beadboard to this material. I've received quite different advice when I've asked around, ranging from "only one nail in the top and bottom" behind the moldings to construction adhesive being the only thing that works. Grateful for your tips!

Nail with a small brad and punch the head with a nail set, it becomes almost invisible.

I have personally used panel clips that are screwed into the substrate. Really convenient and invisible. I used 3 per panel board. You might have to switch to another longer chipboard screw as the ones that come with it aren't always suitable for chipboards. If the wall is not completely straight, a dollop of adhesive might be a good idea. One at the top, one at the bottom, and one in the middle.

I like listskruv/golvskruv for tongued paneling. It is magnificent to work with. For example, this one:

A red box of Grabber screws for wooden panels, labeled "List/Golvskruv," contains 250 pieces, sized 4.2x48 mm, for indoor use.
