Hi, I was thinking of putting up a shelf using a Universal nylon plug. But when I started drilling into the wall that I thought was gypsum, splinters come out, it crackles, and the hole does not turn out well. Is this an OSB wall then? And if so, how do I safely put up a shelf? The shelf is a small 60cm wide shelf with four points that need to be screwed into the wall.

  • A poorly drilled hole in a beige wall, possibly indicating OSB underlayer, with wood chips and rough edges visible around the opening.
  • Debris from drilling on the floor corner near a painted skirting board and wooden flooring, possibly indicating OSB wall material.
Looks like plaster or concrete.

It was relatively easy to drill through and there was a kind of cracking sound like when wood breaks. But I'm not a pro! How do I make a better hole now that it's concrete/plaster?

If it is a concrete wall, you need a concrete drill.

if it is an older house, it may possibly be

Revetering or rappning is a technique for covering a wooden wall, first with an adhesive, usually wooden plugs, reed mats, or wire mesh, and then with plaster.
