Hello!
What I understand is that asbestos has been banned since 1979, but it may still be present in buildings and certain materials even after that. I need to do a complete renovation of the apartment as nothing has been done since moving in. We have, of course, already started removing wallpaper when the question of asbestos arose in connection with the bathroom renovation. I asked the board about an asbestos survey but nothing has been done—they don't think it's present but suggest I should check if there is suspicion.

I don't know what I "should" do. I called an asbestos company for advice but they couldn't offer any guidance. Personally, I felt she was hesitant when I asked if I needed to test and why, particularly when she advised against many tests. "Start with a test" was the response...

How should I decide on this? Has anyone been in the same situation and how did you decide?

How old is your apartment?
What surface materials are you planning to demolish?

From 1981. The short answer is everything...

We have already started removing wallpaper in some rooms but will completely renovate the bathroom (wallpaper on the wall, vinyl flooring) which will of course be handled by professionals, but we also want to remove tiles in the kitchen and the vinyl flooring in the kitchen. Vinyl floors in the bedrooms and parquet in the kitchen.

if it's from 1981, there shouldn't be any asbestos there

Thank you for your answers, not even for these rugs? Located in the hall and kitchen. Attached to some kind of paper in the kitchen (image 2-3) - I don't know about the one in the hall as it hasn't come up. The rug in the kitchen is extremely soft and flexible. The underside is yellowish, almost sponge-like but quite thin.

  • Brown and tan marbled vinyl flooring in a hallway, slightly peeling at the edges, showing wear.
  • Fragmented flooring layers with visible brown and light cork-like patterns in a hallway or kitchen renovation project.
  • Hand lifting soft floor mat off paper backing with debris visible.

Hello, if someone checks, I can confirm that no asbestos was found in these.
