Not impossible, especially if it's from the golden age of asbestos, i.e., the 50s-60s.
I was in Greece in the 90s during the off-season when they were sprucing up the island for the summer. Outside a house they were renovating, there were bags labeled "asbestos" in Cyrillic letters. In Sweden, they stopped using asbestos in that way a little earlier.

But isn't it easier to just patch up the holes that were made then? Then it doesn't matter what's hiding behind there.........Use kalkbruk. Very easy to fill with and matches well with what's there. Softer to work with and finish than any cement mortar that becomes rock hard.
