In what type of filler and paint was asbestos used?
Asking because the paint and filler on my old panel doors have come off, and I want to sand this off and apply new filler/paint.
The material that looks like filler is light yellow and easily turns to powder when crumbled in the hand.
There are also several layers of old paint and filler on the doors, which have surely been painted/renovated several times over the years. The house was built in 1893.
By the way, was asbestos mixed into old linseed oil paint?

Your putty is with the greatest (99%) probability, based on the age of the house, a pure linseed oil putty that was normally prepared by the painter on site in connection with painting. It consists of pure linseed oil and chalk, nothing else, and it gets that slightly yellowish color. It also becomes like powder when it is old and especially if you heat the paint off the woodwork with, for example, a heat gun.
Wear a regular respirator mask when sanding and there's no danger. Asbestos is not dangerous unless you are exposed to it for a longer period of time (unless you happen to have a lung disease).
If you're going to do a lot of sanding, I recommend buying a proper mask from, for example, Sundström: http://www.skyddsprodukter.se/andni...strom/halvmask-sundstrom-sr-100-silikon~2788/
It costs a bit, but then you just need to buy new filters when needed (which is quite rarely). Breathing in such a mask is SO much more comfortable than in paper masks...

The problem is that I can't just make assumptions based on the age of the house, as it has surely been renovated at different times over the years. However, if I had known that the paint/filler on the doors was original, I might have been more confident that there is no asbestos in the material. Now, however, the doors appear to have been painted/filler applied multiple times. Different layers under/over each other.
