Hi, I was peeling off the wallpaper in the summer house and got a bit worried about whether there might be asbestos in the wall. Behind the wallpaper, there is a gravel-like layer about 3-4 cm thick that crumbles when broken (does not dust). Behind this is a brick wall. The house was built in 1937, but it's unclear if this could have been done during a renovation after that.

I know it's obviously not possible to determine 100% without taking samples, but what are your thoughts based on the pictures?

  • Fragmented wall material with textured surface, possibly plaster, over a woven layer and disintegrating due to age or removal in a renovation context.
  • Broken pieces of a sandy, crumbly layer with a grid pattern, found behind wallpaper in a summer cottage, possibly containing asbestos.

  • Cracked brick wall with crumbling plaster and visible underlying texture.
Don't think so without an s-,k waffle tape, have never heard of there being wallpaper with asbestos behind it.

Flour off! Non-asbestos! Tear down and renovate, be happy and enjoy life!
