In the small extension I am working on, I will soon be putting up battens on the ceiling. I have a bunch of leftover 22x95 from the old paneling on the house available if I want to use them. It's good timber, but they are red-painted on one side. This won't be visible, of course, if I use them as battens. Am I being excessively frugal in some way if I use these as battens?

That sounds like an excellent idea!

Good to use what you have left over 👍

Split them lengthwise and you'll have twice as many ;)

HiScore! Here you see someone even stingier ;)

But splitting 95 mm can be a bit too narrow, depending on what you're going to fasten afterwards.
Keep in mind that some ceiling tiles can't be screwed all the way out to the edge but a bit inside. This means that two adjacent tiles might have a screw spacing of 40-50 mm.
If you cut so the battens are 47 mm, the screw will end up on the edge of the rail or, in the worst case, outside. :(

Even though I am not from Småland :) If you are going to screw drywall into the ceiling, it will be difficult; panel ceilings can work to nail in place.

I'm going to have paneling, so it's all good. But I have about 300 meters lying around, as well as at least as much 22x145. I think I'll skip splitting. 😀 Thanks for the answers!
