Time to start building a deck and of course, I have some questions. The long side of the deck, approximately 9 meters long, will be about 1.2 meters above ground level and extend about 2 meters from the part that lies on the ground, about 3 meters.
My first thought was to use 90x90 treated posts and let them continue to be used for the railing, but after some research, I've understood that the beams should rest on the posts. So there are a few options:
1. Screw two 90x45 together and let the beam rest on one of them, but 90x45 might be a bit too weak to keep the railing steady?
2. Screw the beam into 90x90 and screw in a 90x45 as support.
3. Inset the beam into the 90x90, but this makes it weaker for the railing and exposes more end grain to moisture.
Otherwise, I am thinking a beam of 170x45 with posts at 120cm centers along the long side.
