Planning to add insulation to the exterior wall.

I have removed the existing asbestos cement. The old facade was a bit iffy, a little rotten at the bottom, and the lower "beam" likely needs to be reviewed and repaired/replaced in some areas.

Initially, the plan was to use 80mm west coast boards directly on the old facade boards.

Now I'm considering completely tearing down the old facade, framing and insulating with horizontal 45mm boards like flexibatts, then installing the 80mm west coast boards, battens, and vertical facade panels.

Am I thinking correctly?
The wall would be constructed as follows:
panel > air gap > 80mm west coast board > 45mm flexibatt > plank wall > internal 45mm insulation > vapor barrier (probably) > masonite/gypsum

Is wind protection paper needed?

  • Old facade removed revealing damaged wooden structure; red planks and exposed insulation within weathered vertical panels need repair.
  • Decaying wooden exterior wall with peeling paint and visible moisture damage at the base, highlighted in a home renovation context.
