Hello,

we are going to create a 4-meter opening in the exterior wall.

The designer has calculated that we need an HEB 120 or a Limträ 315 (with a column in the middle).

Is it possible to place the beam on top of the rafters' bottom chords (if that's what they are called) to save some ceiling height?

Thanks!

It should be possible to place it on top if you make a shelf of flat bar that supports the underlayer and is bolted to the HEB 120 beam.

Without being particularly knowledgeable in the area, I would say it is possible and it all depends on the attachment of the underliggare (they're actually called frames, I think) which should then hang on the beam instead. These attachments must be able to handle the entire load from the frame and transfer it to the beam, and the attachments must also hold.

You probably need something like a joist hanger but with an extended attachment up towards the beam.
