I'm planning to replace the cladding on my two-story house and also take the opportunity to add 50 mm of insulation. The question is whether I should remove the asfaboard that's under the current cladding or if I can frame on the asfaboard, insulate against it, and then have a wind barrier on the outside? Appreciate any answers/Mange
In terms of moisture, the asfaboard can remain as it is diffusion open.
As a wind barrier, it adds little benefit, but you should also install some wind protection outside the additional insulation.
The only thing I can think of is if it possibly could cause a strange smell or something... :O

yes I guess there is plastic on the inside. but in terms of wind, it must serve the same purpose as it did before, right? it's just that there's something on the outside of it? I was probably thinking of putting wind fabric outside all of it if it's okay to build over the asfaboard?

When I worked with asfaboard, I thought it had a somewhat chemical, oily, and tar-like smell. But boards that have been up for a few years might have become completely odorless?
