Acrylic sealant under ceiling

Hi

I'm thinking about a task I did when I painted the house.

I thought it would be good if the overhanging roof (underside) is protected.

So I smeared on white acrylic sealant.

Does this do more harm than good?

Is there a risk that the beams might start to rot?

It has become a bit discolored, as acrylic sealant apparently does, but I'm mainly wondering if it's a risk area so I can scrape it off in time

Shouldn't do any harm. Painted eaves have been around for a long time. As long as the roofing felt or equivalent stays watertight from above, it should be fine.

Acrylic compound? Is it comparable to plastic paint, or have you applied a really thick layer? Why acrylic compound and not regular paint? (Just curious.)
The thicker the layer (paint), the more effectively it prevents the substrate from breathing.

Then I got the acrylic sealant super cheap

Thought it was tricky if the roofing felt is tight on the top and then the acrylic sealant underneath :/
