Hello, we have made a feature wall in our bedroom using Acoustic panels from Bauhaus (Fibrotech) in walnut.
After a while, it begins to smell strongly from the wall like burnt smoke.
We always sleep with an open window, so there is good ventilation.
We are so pleased with the appearance, but the smell is strong, so we are borrowing an Ozonair to get rid of the smell, but it doesn't disappear.
We contacted Bauhaus, who said that we need to ventilate, even though we described that we have been sleeping with an open window and using Ozonair.
According to them, there is nothing wrong with the product.
We contacted them again, and they denied any fault, but we insisted again, and then they said we should take down the wall and bring it in...
Are there more of you out there who have had problems with odor from these?
Should we now take down the wall, which took a day to put up, to possibly get a new one?
If there is no defect, what guarantees that the next one won't stink?
And who covers the cost of returning it to the store and putting it up again?

Has the room ever been smoke remediated?

No newly renovated and painted but as mentioned ran ozone air to try to get rid of the smell on the panel.

I have a total of 12 "AKUSTIKPANEL FIBROTECH BASIC GRÅ EK" in the living room for a few months now. Very satisfied with the function and appearance. I can't detect any smell from these at all, could there be another source for the smell?

I have also set these up in the living room. In walnut.

One of the planks had a bit of mold, you can see it on the black-painted side of the rib. But the part that had mold became a scrap piece. Otherwise, they have smelled quite good.

Yes, at first they just smelled new, now they smell like they've been in a smoke-filled room...

I have paneling (light oak) in a room and there is still an incredibly strong smell from them after 2 weeks. We are airing out and waiting.

I don't know anything about the boards per se, but I have had to replace a few 1000 square meters of ceiling panels due to the same type of smell. It was caused by the binder in the glass wool, an organic glue, which replaced petroleum products. Could it be something similar in your panels?

These ceilings were particularly affected when the humidity and temperature rose.

I also have the panel at home without odor

A point there that opening windows might provide enough moisture content for the fiberglass to absorb and smell?

It's unfortunate what's happening, but ozone air only removes the odor in the air (which probably works well), but it doesn't do anything about the source, whatever that might be. The source adds new odor as soon as the ozone air is gone...
Do you live in an apartment? Could the smell be coming from neighbors? Not just through windows and ventilation but perhaps via beams, etc. New or old house? Even if the apartment is renovated, it could very well be smoke-damaged from previous owners, which is now exacerbated by your new paneling.

That shouldn't happen, it was a faulty process in manufacturing, we got everything replaced under warranty, so if that can be the reason, it should be replaced.

Do you have any leftover piece that you can steam a bit with a steam iron, then the smell should come immediately.

I have now noted that we bought the panel in two batches, and it's actually only the first batch that smells. If you put your nose to the second, it rather smells a bit like fresh new building material. I will get back to customer service about this and see what they have to say. The hard part is to route in new boards on site again, if they have to be replaced.

We installed Fibrotech smoked oak at the end of summer and it probably took three weeks despite good ventilation before the scent disappeared completely unfortunately.
