I have a post that supports an end balcony. The post is starting to rot because it is so close to the ground.
What do you suggest as a solution?
Replace the post with a pressure-treated one and ignore that it's close to the ground. But will the paint hold up on the bottom of the post if it's a pressure-treated post near the ground?
Replace the foundation so you can mount the post higher from the ground? Can you pour a new foundation on the old one? Or is it necessary to dig away the old one first (but that would probably cause some trouble with the paving)?
The first thing you should do is to set something from the ground up to the underside of the balcony and attach it there, ensuring it has some tension to stay in place, preferably with a thicker plank or similar. After that, you can remove the post and see what and how it can be done with a new post. Return with a couple of photos of how it looks (once you have removed it) at the slabs and at the top, and you will get tips.
