I am planning to build a shelter for my ponies, 8.5 x 4 meters in size. I'm now considering the dimensions.
I'm thinking of using vertical studs 45 x 120 C24, 60 cc.
The corners consist of 3 studs at 90 degrees to each other.
Rafters 45 x 220 C24 60 cc, 450 cm long so they protrude 50 cm.
Top plate 45 x 120 C24 laid flat
Batten strips 45 x 45
Load-bearing battens 45 x 70
Maybe I should add a cross brace?
The rear wall is 250 cm high and the front 270 cm.
The idea is to clad the exterior with rough-cut overlaid boards 1 inch with a 1-inch board up to 175 cm.
Internally, tongue and groove planks 43 x 145 up to about 130 cm as a kickboard.
The space between the cladding and the top plate is intended to be covered with wind netting.
The roof will be covered with TP20 metal sheet and underlayment.
For the foundation, I'm thinking of a sill frame in treated timber attached to ground screws.
What do you think of this construction? I'm very new to this building thing, so I might be completely off track. But I hope you can help me so the ponies get a stable shelter.
It might be a good idea to use a layer of plywood under the panel on the outside instead of diagonals for good stability.
Easier to replace boards in the kick guard if they are not tongue and groove. The boards at the bottom against the bed are the ones you will probably have to replace first.
