After a water damage incident, I am planning to put some shelves on a construction with gypsum board and L-profile (not built by me). The shelves, a total of 6 pieces @ 600x440mm, will rest on battens. The batten on one side is attached to the stone wall, not worried there. On the other side, I plan to attach the batten to the gypsum board, which in turn is only screwed into the L-profile. One of the profiles is screwed into the stone wall, the other seems to have only a small wooden strip for the correct distance, additionally weakened by being bent.

I wish for each shelf to be able to hold 50kg, but I'm unsure what the gypsum board and L-profile can handle. Does anyone know if this will work? I plan to fasten with two expanders per batten that go through the L-profiles.

Thanks in advance

  • Drywall construction with L-profiles and wrapped pipes, post water damage, for shelving support.
  • Drywall corner with plaster patches next to plastic storage bin.
Can't you draw a simple section so it's clearer what you mean?
