Going to "build" a shelf myself or at least sand and paint it myself :-D first time, need a board/plank or whatever you call it, 5 cm thick, 26 cm deep, and 1 meter long. Where can I find that? Which type of wood should I choose if it needs to withstand a bit and can be nicely painted white? Super cute if you answer!!! A girl who wants to get things done ;-)

Not a bad board at 50mm.
What is it supposed to hold? Wouldn't it be better to make a "box" out of MDF?

If you want a 5cm thick board, it's not exactly a standard size.

Bauhaus, for instance, has 4 cm thick laminated boards. You can buy a laminated board at Bauhaus made of oak or ash/birch/another knot-free wood, and it's 2.3 cm thick (I think it's 2.3 or 2.6 cm). Then you ask Bauhaus to cut the board so you get 2 pieces that are 26 cm deep and 1 m long. Now you take and screw (as well as countersink and fill over the screws) these 2 pieces together. In this way, you get an approximately 5 cm thick board.

Don't understand MDF box...
It's just supposed to hold three small baskets with, for example, dog leashes and such.
Thanks for the help!

He suggested that you could build a hollow shelf out of thin sheets of MDF. It's a type of board that is smooth and easy to paint.

It might involve a bit more work and precision to do it that way. But maybe you could consider going down in thickness a bit, and then there are boards available that just need to be cut to size. Or you could do as Martin wrote.

I had taken 2 pieces of MDF and screwed them together to get the right thickness. MDF, as mentioned, is easy to paint, easy to find, and quite cheap.

Can Beijer have this? maybe I can get a little help then with :-D
The idea was that I would have a shelf from Ikea, with the name Lack but it is 110 so it doesn't fit, then I have an old Lack shelf where I would take the fittings, the fittings are hidden and they should be.
Thanks for all the answers!

Surely Beijer has the building materials. But the prices are the highest of all building supply stores and the service is the worst, at least if you are shopping as an individual.

The cheapest mdf can probably be found at bauhaus

If you consider that 5cm is significantly more than most kitchen countertops, you can probably skip solid wood pieces in oak, etc. The weight will never work with IKEA's hidden brackets. So MDF box is probably the only option if it needs to be 5cm...

Screw, don't nail

Will the sides be visible? If not, cut down a Lack shelf on one side by 10cm, making it 1m, but you will probably need to add some stabilization where you cut off the end because of the box principle. If it is visible, you can cut off a bit extra and then put back the outermost part on the shelf, but it will be a bit tricky since it's built like a box. But it is doable.
