I have an old built-in bench in my kitchen that connects to the kitchen counter. The problem now is that we've bought an IKEA kitchen and their new kitchen is deeper. So the bench doesn't fit well now.
Is it possible to apply plaster to the bench 3-4cm? It is painted today with some kind of glossy white paint. Does the paint need to be removed or is primer enough?
And is it the plaster mortar type C that is most suitable then?
And do I need to reinforce with some kind of mesh?

Best regards, Anders

I'm uncertain if C-mortar, plaster is suitable for a surface expected to experience some wear. A-mortar is recommended, but it needs to have some thickness for it to last. Can't you cast a countertop separately and place it on top if you want to keep the material type? Then you can reinforce it and have the nice side facing up, with a slight overhang that matches the adjacent countertop.

If I cast a new slab and place it over, it will be so high against the regular countertop. But otherwise a good idea. But would it work to just cast the overhang so it fits against the countertop? If you drive in some nails that stick out to reinforce? Hard to explain but...
