I'm planning to build a small decking level with a gravel path and would like to use wider dimensions of decking timber than I have been able to find in stores so far (about 300 mm wide). I have a friend with access to a good jointer and planer, and it occurred to me that perhaps I could glue together standard decking to achieve the width.

Has anyone here tried something similar? What do you think about the result? The length of the area to be covered with decking is about 4 m. Does anyone have any tips?

Bad odds, I think. Unfortunately.
There will be significant movements in the wood due to all the moisture outdoors, and I find it hard to see that the gluing will hold in the long term. Depending on how deeply the impregnation has penetrated the wood, there is also a high risk that the paint will become very patchy if you start planing the wood (green/wood-colored alternately).

Buy glulam beams and split them in half, plane them to the same thickness in a planer.

The gluing will probably hold, wood moves mostly in width. There is a risk that it might crack at the ends because moisture goes in and out at the ends, which is a risk with ALL wood.
Glue with waterproof glue like Cascofen.
Aligning a 4-meter-long board is not simple, with about 3 meters hanging outside the jointer table.
Gluing is also a problem, maybe use biscuits or domino to avoid getting too many edges.
Gluing such a long and wide surface requires a lot of clamps, around 20-30.

Then the whole thing tends to cup and if you press it down, it will crack.

Do and leave us feedback.

That will just be crap. A decking board is like a propeller, if it hasn't already shrunk in one direction, it will, think about how it will be with two glued together. It's pretty obvious that this won't work very well.

Use pressure-treated rule 45x220 (maybe there are wider ones) as decking plank?!

That's probably a much better idea, but you might need to be a little selective in the choice of beam and sand them a bit.

Gluing sounds questionable. It won't last very long.

What if you glue with waterproof glue then?

I think it's obvious that it's completely hopeless to make it work..

Weather and sun quickly wear down anything that is not screwed or solid. You can try, but don't expect it to look nice after two years.

I also wonder if it would look as nice as one initially hopes. The glued seam will be visible even when it's new and will probably prevent the eye from being tricked into thinking it's a whole plank.
I like when people think outside the box, but I'm not really convinced about this.
