Why tongue and groove planks on the roof?

Hello! I'm trying to understand how the roof should be built on the garage and I see that some people have raw boards on the rafters under the roofing felt, while others do not.

When do you need to use raw boards and why/how can some choose not to have it?

You get a much stiffer roof with råspont. It becomes like a large board if mounted correctly.
Less movement during wind, etc.

why tongue and groove and felt?
it is a classic type of base.
masonite has been used too.
now you can also put a safety fabric as well,
there are other variants too.
boards, old "shake roof," plywood.
in terms of safety, tongue and groove is safe to walk on while doing the roofing job.
