Strength of materials has never been my specialty. Does anyone have an idea?
Which one holds up the best?
Two similar gate designs with structural differences, highlighted by red arrows, for comparison of durability and strength in construction choices.

It was a bit like "find five differences" with the 2 pictures.

If I'm seeing correctly this evening, the only difference is whether the lintel and bottom rail on the door extend all the way to the door sides?

If that's the only difference, I would say it doesn't matter; the important thing is how the joints between the frame parts on the door are made.

Some type of cross (i.e., a brace) in the door is what would have made the biggest difference.

Well, I'd rather not have any crosses. Each 2" 5 or 6 will be fastened with wooden dowels, glue, and screws. I don't remember how I spontaneously drew them initially, but I suspect the left one provides better stability. The hook hinges probably need to be upgraded.....

Your two options are almost equivalent, i.e., equally bad.
(Choose the one you think looks best)

The only thing you need to consider is how to prevent the door from sagging on the opposite side of the hinges and becoming a rhombus instead of a rectangle.
And in that regard, your two presented choices don't make much difference, but what matters is diagonal struts or inserting a shape-stable panel in one or all of the panels.
