So, at most I'm a happy hobby carpenter who has bought various machines over the years, so I have a planer and jointer and other things needed to handle rough-sawn wood.

But where on earth do I get the wood? I live in Västerås and no matter how much I google, I can't find anywhere nearby where I can go and buy rough-sawn hardwood such as oak, cedar, walnut, and other types of wood. Every construction company like Bauhaus, Byggmax, Byggma, XL bygg, etc., etc., only has pine, pine, pine, pine, and pine as decking wood. Some have a small selection of planed oak moldings that cost a fortune.

I'm not looking for cheap wood - but if you want to build outdoor furniture and want to use something like cedar wood, where on earth is an amateur carpenter supposed to get it?? I've found calexicowood.se where you can apparently order hardwood online, but it feels like if you're a professional cabinetmaker, there must be somewhere to get the materials - but maybe it's not a place where ordinary folks can shop?

Where do you get your wood?

The Holm brothers in Sala. They do not sell to private individuals, so you need to talk to someone who has, or can set up an account there.

Yeah, but that's just typical, we half-baked amateur carpenters are left out as always :-D

I talked to Beijer in Tunbytorp, and they apparently order from there, so you can order wood through them. But it costs 600+VAT extra for the shipping and I then have to pick it up with a trailer, so I have to compare the cost with ordering from Calixo.

Now it might not help OP, but if you live down towards Blekinge, there's Isaks ädelträ in Nättraby. They sell all kinds of hardwoods and also different types of sheet materials. I believe you can shop there as a private individual.

My tip is to check out blocket for people selling rough-sawn hardwood. If you're satisfied with Swedish tree species, I've at least managed to find both good and cheap options that way. There are hobby sawyers out there willing to sell ash, oak, birch, beech, and similar for anything between 3000-10000 SEK per cubic meter.

If you're passing by Stockholm, you'll find Pondus Snickeri on Kungsholmen. There, they have, or can bring in, a bit of everything.
