This is the panel in my kitchen. The panel is thin, around 8-9mm, and solid. I believe it's from the late 60s. I would like to stain or paint it, but I'm unsure about what to use. For example, is knot sealer needed for these small knots? How will it look on the darker areas in the wood if I stain it?

Unfortunately, I don't have a really good guess about what type of wood it is. But I thought I'd suggest that you ask the question in the woodworking section of the forum. People who frequent there are usually good at identifying wood types.
