Hello,

what type of PEM tubing should be used from the geothermal borehole to the house?

I need to reroute the tubing from the geothermal system and incoming tap water; is there any brand that works for both?

Best regards

PEM 32mm is what we have, I have no idea about the brand.

Edit: Found some more info about different PEM hoses at [link]

Do you have the same brand/model for both geothermal heating and tap water?

Vetifan, drinking water was made by one company and geothermal heating by another at a different time, the size is the same for both anyway.

For drinking water, you should use PEM32 SDR 11. For geothermal heating, you can reduce the wall thickness to SDR17. It's most common to use 40mm for the collector pipe. With 32mm, there might be too high pressure drops; what is installed there today?

Regarding the brand, it doesn't matter much, just make sure the hose is marked with nordic polymark, which is a quality certification.

Thanks,
Is sdr17 = 2.4mm in wall thickness?

I'm not sure what's in the ground today, it transitions to 28mm copper indoors. I'll need to check this before I buy the pipe, of course.

The SDR class describes the ratio between material thickness and diameter, for a 40mm SDR11 the wall thickness is 3.63mm -> the inner diameter becomes 32.73mm. For a 40mm SDR17, the inner diameter is 35.3mm (2x2.35mm). I believe that 32mm barely exists as SDR17 (if nothing else, it's probably expensive since it's an unusual dimension).

How much pipe are you going to replace? If you want to avoid buying two different pipes, I would go with 40mm SDR11, but the price difference becomes quite significant compared to SDR17 if there's a bit of length to the pipe. Therefore, it might be worthwhile to buy a 40mm SDR17 and a piece of 32mm SDR11.

How much hose are you going to replace? If you now want to avoid buying two different hoses, I would go for 40mm SDR11, but the price difference becomes quite noticeable against SDR17 if there is some length on the hose. Therefore, it may pay off to buy a 40mm SDR17 and a piece of 32mm SDR 11.
Thanks for the clarification.

About 20m for incoming water and 12m for geothermal heating in total. Now I have a bit more idea about what to look for.
