What type of old brick is this? Thin with grooves on one side.

It was under the plaster (as a plaster carrier?) on a house from the 1930s.

Was it common?

Is it worth trying to reuse or just throw away? I have a larger quantity left after an extension where we demolished a small section.

Old grooved brick found under plaster in a 1930s house, questioning its reuse or disposal after renovation. Surrounded by debris. Old brick with holes, used under plaster in a 1930s house, surrounded by debris. Hand holding a piece of vintage grooved red brick with rough edges, amid debris, likely used underneath plaster in a 1930s house renovation. Hand holding a thin, grooved brick piece, possibly used as plaster support in a 1930s house, surrounded by construction debris. Old bricks with grooves covered in mortar and plaster debris, possibly used as backing under plaster in a 1930s house. Query about reuse or disposal.

Thank you.

In my case, it's nailed with the grooves facing outwards. Was that common?

It's probably so that the plaster adheres better to the grooves? Presumably, it's part of the product.
